"Follow your heart", "Lean not on your own understanding", "I had a gut feeling." Three common quotes which allude to the fact there is a part of us that thinks and feels and is not our brain. Is that part actually our spirit? I think so, and the Bible provides plenty of proof to support. If our spirit has something to say about our day to day activities, and so does our mind, i.e. soul, then who are we supposed to listen to?
